The New York Yankees say infielder Gio Urshela is expected to be sidelined three months after having surgery Friday to remove a bone chip in his right elbow.
According the Yankees, Urshela had the surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital by head team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad.
Urshela, 29, dealt with the bone chip this past season, one that saw him limited to 43 games. Both he and Yankees manager Aaron Boone had said late in the season that surgery was a possibility.
Urshela hit .298 on the season. That came a year after his breakout big league season, one that saw him hit .314 with 21 home runs for New York in 2019.
