Sources: Rockets hiring Mavs’ Silas as new coach

Dallas Mavericks assistant Stephen Silas is finalizing a deal to become the next head coach of the Houston Rockets, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.

The Rockets were sold on Silas’ offensive ingenuity, his pedigree with Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle, Steve Clifford and his father, Paul Silas, sources said.

Silas has coached some remarkable guards in his NBA career, including Luka Doncic, Kemba Walker and Stephen Curry. Now he gets to run the Rockets’ offense with James Harden and Russell Westbrook

Silas would replace Mike D’Antoni, who informed the team in September that he would not be returning as coach.
