Tszyu masterclass against Horn keeps him undefeated

Boxing

Tim Tszyu has announced himself to the boxing world with a stunning performance in Townsville, dominating Aussie icon Jeff Horn to remain undefeated.

The 25-year-old, son of Kostya, put on an absolute masterclass, bossing Horn for eight rounds before the former welterweight world champion threw in the towel. The win sees Tszyu retain his WBO Global and Australian IBF super welterweight titles.

“I just want to let everyone know my name is Tim, not the son,” Tszyu said after the fight. “Full respect to Jeff, he’s a tough opponent.”

Tszyu answered plenty of pre-fight questions, overcoming Horn’s awkward style with precision, just as his father Kostya did in the same city 23 years ago.

Horn had come out swinging but it didn’t take long for Tszyu to assume control of the contest. He struck Horn with a series of right-handers and by mid-way through the second round, Horn was already gasping for air.

It was the third round where Tszyu really asserted himself. He landed a series of clean blows, knocking Horn down twice.

From that point it was one way traffic. A composed Tszyu bullied Horn and was the clear winner of every round until the fight was waved off after eight rounds.

It’s unclear where Tszyu will go next, although he has done his dream of a world title fight little harm. For Horn, who has now lost three of his last five fights, this could be the final time we see him in the ring.
