Georgia QB Beck (elbow surgery) done for season

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will miss the remainder of the season with an injury to the elbow of his throwing arm suffered late in the first half of the Bulldogs’ 22-19 overtime victory against Texas in the SEC championship game earlier this month.

The school said Monday that Beck underwent successful surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on his right elbow to repair the ulnar collateral ligament. Georgia said a full recovery is anticipated, with Beck expected to resume throwing in the spring.

Beck, who was considered a potential first-round pick in next year’s NFL draft, was seeking medical opinions and hadn’t practiced with the No. 2-ranked Bulldogs since he was hurt against the Longhorns.

In Beck’s absence, sophomore Gunner Stockton will make his first college start in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1 in a College Football Playoff quarterfinal against No. 7 Notre Dame.

Beck suffered the injury on the final play of the first half of the conference title game and made a dramatic return to the field for a handoff on the game-winning play in overtime. Stockton had to leave the field for one play after having his helmet knocked off.

Even though he was able to take the snap and hand off to Trevor Etienne for the running back’s decisive 4-yard touchdown carry, Beck was unable to raise his right arm.

Beck, a fifth-year senior, is 24-3 as a starter. He started all 26 games for the Bulldogs in 2023 and 2024. He passed for 3,941 yards and 24 touchdowns with only six interceptions in 2023 but had more difficulties with turnovers this campaign. Beck passed for 28 touchdowns with 12 interceptions this season and completed 7 of 13 passes for 56 yards before his injury.
