Tommy Fury: Rematch vs Jake Paul ‘inevitable’

Boxing

Tommy Fury said on Tuesday that a rematch against Jake Paul is “inevitable” as he prepares to fight former UFC contender Darren Till in January.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul beat Mike Tyson on Friday via unanimous decision, and has attracted interest from professional boxers including undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, who have both called him out on social media.

Fury (10-0, 4 KOs) beat Paul on points in February 2023 and said he believes the loss will haunt the American. Asked if he would want a rematch, Fury told ESPN: “In a heartbeat, yeah. I mean at the end of the day I think me and him, we’re set in stone.

“He’s only got one defeat and that’s to me, so it’s inevitable that we are going to get back in the ring.

“I know I’m going to be an improved fighter and with him the [fights] he’s taking and what he’s doing, I’m not sure if he’s going to improve that much.”

Till (MMA: 18-5, 10 KOs) last fought in the UFC in Las Vegas in 2022 against Dricus du Plessis at UFC 282. While he has had some big nights in the octagon, beating Donald Cerrone and Kelvin Gastelum and going the distance with Robert Whittaker, the bout against Fury on Jan. 18 in Manchester will be his first in professional boxing.

The fight will be eight rounds at cruiserweight.

Fury last fought in Oct. 2023, beating YouTuber KSI on points. He had surgery on his hand in January and said he has thrived since returning to the gym after a long lay-off.

“I’ve been in a training camp since August because obviously I’ve had quite a while out, so I’ve been using my time wisely,” Fury said.

“I’ve been in the gym three times a day and I’ve really put together a machine. I wouldn’t even call it a body, I’d call it a machine, especially what my dad’s been putting us through. So yeah, we’re ready to go.”
