The emergence of Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian cricket scenario coincided with a point in time in Indian cricket when fast bowling was becoming its strength. From being spin reliant, then skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shatri wanted to make fast bowling armada that could shake the world. Jasprit Bumrah became the poster boy if that revolution. Be it in Tests or T20s or ODIs, Bumrah’s unique action was too much for rival batters to read.

As he rose up the ranking charts so did the Indian cricket team’s graph as a fast bowling side. Today, India is easily among the top three teams when it comes to pace prowess.

However, there was a point in time when Jasprit Bumrah, who hails from Gujarat, wanted to move to Canada for better opportunities. But then Mumbai Indians happenned and the rest is history.

“You wanted to go to Canada and set up a new life there?” Sanjana, the fast bowler’s wife, asked Bumrah.

“We have had these conversations before. Every boy wants to make it big and play cricket. Every street has 25 players who want to play for India. You have to have a backup plan. Our relative lives there. I though I will finish my education and…my uncle lives there. First we though we would go as a family, then my mum did not want to go there as it’s a different culture. I am very happy and very lucky that things worked out, Otherwise I don’t know I would have tried to play for the Canadian team and do something there as well. Glad it worked out here. I am playing for the Indian team and Mumbai Indians,” Bumrah told on Jio Cinema.

Recently, former Indian cricket Manoj Tiwary commented that he would want Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mayank Yadav in the team for the T20 World Cup.

“If I was in Ajit Agarkar‘s position I would put him in. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and then Mayan Yadav. Looking at Mayank’s form, action and release it looks like he is in control and it feels like if you give him a bigger stage, he will deliver. With IPL where many overseas players do come in and get them out, your confidence will also go up,” Tiwary said in a discussion on Cricbuzz.
