Barry, Fredette headline United States 3×3 team

USA Basketball announced its four-member 3×3 national team for the Paris Olympics Tuesday.

Canyon Barry, former NBA player Jimmer Fredette, Kareem Maddox and Dylan Travis will return after winning the silver medal at the 2023 World Cup for Team USA.

Barry, the son of NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry, played four years in the NBA G-League and overseas and is a 3×3 specialist.

Fredette played parts of six seasons in the NBA with six teams two years in China and known for his shooting prowess.

Maddox, a forward in 5×5 basketball who played at Princeton and for several years overseas, has won five gold medals in international competition with Team USA dating to 2019.

Travis, who won an NCAA Div. II national title in college at Florida Southern, has won numerous medals with Team USA over the last four years.

“Representing your country at the Olympics is the ultimate honor,” Team USA coach Joe Lewandowski said. “I am so happy for these guys after all the hard work and dedication they have put into 3×3 basketball. USA Basketball has the highest of standards and now the hard work begins to reach our gold-medal dream.”

Unlike the standard 5×5 game, 3×3 is played in the halfcourt with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock. Teams “clear” the ball behind a 2-point line after baskets, rebounds or steals. The first team to score 21 points wins or whoever is leading when time expires.
