GANDIA, Spain — Oleksandr Usyk says he doesn’t judge Tyson Fury for sustaining a cut while sparring which forced their heavyweight boxing unification fight to be postponed.
The fight was delayed from Feb. 17 to May 18, still in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after Fury needed stitches for the cut.
“I don’t judge anyone, no one at all. It happens, it’s boxing. You need to take it seriously because we are on a different level with Tyson Fury. We must cross out all the little things in order to keep preparing to go to the ring,” Usyk said from his training camp in Spain on Tuesday.
Usyk also said he missed the birth of his fourth child on Jan. 28 to stay in his training camp for the fight.
“I have put many things at stake,” he added. “I didn’t celebrate any holidays, not the New Year’s Eve, not my birthday, birthdays of my children that took place while I was in training. I was not with my wife when she gave birth.”
It is the second time the fight has been delayed after a date last December fell through.
Usyk, from Ukraine, holds the WBA, IBF and WBO titles. Fury, from Britain, has the WBC belt.
The winner will be crowned the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 2000.
