England vs South Africa, 2nd Test, Day 3 Highlights: England bowled South Africa out for 179 in their second innings of the second Test in Manchester to register a mammoth win by an innings and 85 runs, levelling the three-match series 1-1 after suffering an innings defeat of their own in the first Test. After England skipper Ben Stokes broke the back of South Africa’s resistance with the wickets of Rassie van der Dussen and Keegan Petersen in quick succession in, the visitors suffered a lower order collapse as James Anderson and Ollie Robinson made hay with the second new ball. Anderson finished with three wickets, while Robinson claimed four. Stokes had Rassie van der Dussen caught behind to end a defiant 87-run stand between him and Petersen. Stokes then bowled a snorter that Petersen could only glove behind to Ben Foakes. The two had put on an 87-run partnership to help South Africa reach 141/3 at Tea after England’s pacers ran riot early on, but Stokes struck early in the final session of the day. It was all Robinson and Anderson after that. Earlier, Stuart Broad got the better of Aiden Markram, Ollie Robinson dismissed Sarel Erwee while James Anderson cleaned up Dean Elgar on Saturday. On Friday, Ben Stokes had hit his first century since being appointed England’s full-time Test captain and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes also reached three figures as the hosts established a commanding lead over South Africa in the second Test in Manchester. Foakes hit an unbeaten 113, after Stokes’ 103-run knock as England took a first innings lead of 264 runs against South Africa in the game. After bundling out the visitors for a paltry of 151, England declared their innings at 415 for 9. (SCORECARD)
