Aspinall to have ACL, MCL, meniscus surgery

Tom Aspinall is scheduled to undergo knee surgery Wednesday in London, the UFC heavyweight announced on social media Wednesday.

The 29-year-old also revealed the extent of the injury, which he suffered in the first round of a UFC Fight Night main event against Curtis Blaydes late last month in London. Aspinall recoiled and grabbed his right knee in pain after throwing an early outside leg kick. The result of the fight was a TKO loss, via injury.

“I have suffered a torn MCL, a torn meniscus and some ACL damage,” Aspinall said on Twitter. “I’m going to get that fixed today.”

Fighting out of Liverpool, Aspinall has been one of the fastest-rising contenders in the sport. He signed with the UFC in 2020 and began his career 5-0 with five consecutive finishes. Had he won in London, he would have likely been one win away from a UFC title shot at most.

Aspinall did not provide a time frame for his return.
