Sources: Andrade injury postpones May 21 bout

Demetrius Andrade suffered a right shoulder injury, and his May 21 fight vs. Zach Parker in the United Kingdom is postponed, sources told ESPN.

It will be determined if surgery is required after the results of an MRI are examined by a doctor on Monday, sources said.

Andrade (31-0, 19 KOs) has made five defenses of his middleweight title and is rated No. 3 by ESPN at middleweight. The Providence, Rhode Island, native was set to debut at 168 pounds for the interim super middleweight title bout vs. Parker.

The 34-year-old is one of the most talented boxers in the world, but the big fights have long eluded him. There’s good reason why Andrade is perhaps the sport’s most-avoided boxer: He is a tricky southpaw who often makes opponents look foolish.

Andrade also held a title at 154 pounds and is coming off a second-round TKO of Jason Quigley in November.

Parker (22-0, 16 KOs) has scored five consecutive stoppage victories since a split-decision win in 2018. Parker, a 27-year-old Englishman, was set to compete on the world-class level for the first time with the Andrade matchup.
