Wizards to open training camp minus Hachimura

NBA

Rui Hachimura will miss the start of Washington Wizards training camp because of personal reasons, the team announced Saturday.

The Wizards announced Hachimura’s excused absence and said there will be “further updates when appropriate.”

The Wizards have high expectations for the forward, who is projected to start and will be counted on to take a step forward in his third season. Hachimura averaged 13.8 points and 5.5 rebounds and shot 47.8% from the field in 57 games last season. He missed the start of last season, though, with conjunctivitis.

Washington will also be without center Thomas Bryant, who is making his way back from an ACL injury suffered last season. Second-year forward Deni Avdija is returning from a fractured ankle suffered in April.
