Hawks remove interim tag for coach McMillan

NBA

Hawks president/general manager Travis Schlenk told reporters Monday that an agreement is in place to remove the interim label from coach Nate McMillan’s title after he led Atlanta to the Eastern Conference finals.

McMillan’s new deal is for four years, a source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Hawks finished the regular season 27-11 after McMillan replaced Lloyd Pierce in March.

McMillan then led the Hawks to playoff series victories over the New York Knicks in five games and the Philadelphia 76ers in seven games before Atlanta fell to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games.

McMillan, 56, had previously been a head coach with the Seattle SuperSonics, Portland Trail Blazers and Indiana Pacers.

He has a record of 688-599 in 1,287 regular-season games.
