Sources: Blazers to interview D’Antoni for HC job

Brooklyn Nets assistant Mike D’Antoni will interview Monday for the Portland Trail Blazers‘ vacant head-coaching position, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Portland, seeking a replacement for Terry Stotts, also will interview Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups and Spurs assistant Becky Hammon this week, sources told Wojnarowski.

Blazers general manager Neil Olshey said last week that the organization was conducting a “very expansive, diverse search” for its next head coach, and that there were “anywhere from 20 to 25 candidates.”

D’Antoni, 70, is in his first season as Steve Nash’s assistant in Brooklyn after spending the previous four seasons as the Rockets‘ head coach. The two-time NBA Coach of the Year has a career 672-527 record in 16 seasons with the Rockets, Lakers, Knicks, Suns and Nuggets.

Stotts was the second-winningest coach in Portland franchise history, including eight consecutive playoff appearances — the longest streak in the league. He was 402-318 in his nine seasons as Blazers coach.

Stotts led the Blazers to an appearance in the Western Conference finals in 2019, and two more trips to the conference semifinals during his tenure in Portland. After a fourth first-round playoff exit in five seasons, Stotts and the Blazers mutually agreed to part ways on June 4.
