Hours before the IPL 2021 begins, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) cautioned all the bowlers playing this season with a teaser of their captain David Warner, one of the most destructive hitters in the game. Warner, who holds the record for most runs scored by an overseas player in the tournament, said he is excited to be a part of the Indian Premier League. In the clip shared on social media, the Australian opener said he has tried to be on top of his fitness, and did a little bit of running inside his room during the quarantine. “So yeah, I’m looking forward to it.” The video also shows Warner practising on the ground with his teammates.

Warner gained popularity during the lockdown last year for posting witty videos on social media, including one in which he shows his dancing skills on a popular Telugu song.

Warner was signed by SRH in 2014. He guided the 2016 champions to the playoffs in the last IPL. Earlier this week, Warner unveiled the new jersey of the team on Instagram from his hotel quarantine. “Pumped to get out of here in a couple of days, join the guys ahead of our first game in Chennai,” Warner said.

The IPL kicks off Friday evening when Mumbai Indians take on Royal Challengers Bangalore. SunRisers Hyderabad will play their first game on Sunday against Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Warner said the wicket “could be a tad slow” in Chennai but it will “suit us all” to play. At the end of the video, in a message for SunRisers fans, he said,

“Unfortunately, we can’t allow spectators on the ground. But we know you are fully behind us. We really appreciate that.”
