Virat Kohli changed his Twitter bio to “A proud husband and father” after the birth of his first child – a baby girl. Virat and his wife Anushka Sharma were blessed with a girl on January 11 and the cricketer had posted on social media to share the message with his followers. “We are thrilled to share with you that we have been blessed with a baby girl this afternoon. We thank you for all the love, prayer and good wishes. Anushka and the baby are both healthy and we are feeling beyond blessed to start this new chapter of our lives. We hope that you will respect our privacy at this time,” Kohli had posted.

Kohli had been granted a paternity leave by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from India’s ongoing tour of Australia. 

Kohli played in the ODI and T20I series in the tour and the first Test before flying back to India to be with his wife. 

India are engaged in the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar series at The Gabba in Brisbane and yesterday Kohli tweeted in appreciation of teammates Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur, both of whom hit half-centuries and shared a crucial partnership in India’s first innings.

Kohli, the all-formats captain of the men’s team, has played 87 Tests, 251 ODIs and 85 T20Is since his debut in 2008.
