Illinois QB Peters among 2 to test positive

NCAAF

Illinois quarterback Brandon Peters has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be out for 21 days, including Saturday’s game against Purdue, the school announced.

Along with Peters, redshirt freshman tight end Griffin Moore also tested positive, while a number of other players will be out against Purdue and next week against Minnesota due to contact tracing.

Peters, who is eligible to return Nov. 21 at Nebraska, was 8-for-19 for 87 yards with zero touchdowns or interceptions in the Illini’s season-opening loss to Wisconsin.

The Badgers are not playing Saturday due to a coronavirus outbreak among the team.

Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore is not expected to play Saturday at Illinois, a source told ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.

Moore also sat out last week’s season opener against Iowa but was on the sideline.
