Tony Ferguson to the UFC on Dustin Poirier negotiations: Pay the man

MMA

Former UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson took to social media on Monday to ask the promotion to pay Dustin Poirier more money, so the two can fight on Oct. 24.

The UFC was targeting a 155-pound matchup between Ferguson (25-4) and Poirier (26-6), also a former interim champion, as its co-main event for UFC 254 on Oct. 24, but it hasn’t been able to come to terms with Poirier. Poirier recently told ESPN he considered the fight off and even left his camp in south Florida.

On Monday, Ferguson campaigned for Poirier’s cause on Twitter.

“Pay the man, [Dana White],” Ferguson wrote. “Love ya’ll, but let’s give the hardcore and casual fans what they deserve, a good fight sir.”

Poirier immediately responded to Ferugson’s tweet with the statement, “Violence!!! Let’s go Tony!!!”

He also said Ferguson is “the type of guy who would manage his opponent and get him a new contract for the fight to happen.”

Last week, White told reporters the UFC is not “even trying to salvage” the fight between Ferugson and Poirier, and said the company would find a new opponent for Ferguson. The UFC 254 pay-per-view event, which will take place at ‘Fight Island’ in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, is scheduled to be headlined by a lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje.
