Poker Players and their educational background
I stumbled upon this article comparing poker players and fund managers. It is published by Netgroup Investors, Matthew de Witt. Interestingly, like top fund managers, good professional poker players generate significant profits over longer periods, but have mixed results over shorter periods as there is a random element (or luck) to the cards dealt. So I decided to do some reasearch on past winners of the World Series of Poker Main Event winners. Chris... [Read More...]
Tiffany “Hot Chips” Michelle eliminated from WSOP 2008
Tiffany Michelle was eliminated today from the World Series of Poker Main Event. She placed 17th and will take home $334,534. Not bad for six days of work. At the beginning of the day she was in 3rd place, as the day went on her stack dwindled. She will certainly be the highlight of the ESPN coverage when it begins. The controversy is still about the delay in the final table. Looks like there are 11 players remaining. The final table should be set... [Read More...]
Day 6 of 2008 WSOP down to 27
The 2008 World Series of Poker dwindled down to 27 players, as they work themselves down to the final table on Nov 9. The chip leader is Dennis Phillips from St. Louis MO with 11.9 million. Close behind him is Craig Maruis with 11.46 million. Johnny Chan likes Nick Sliwinski: “I had Johnny Chan at my table,” said Loecke. “He was great, very personable. We both had big chip stacks at the table, he came around the table and gave me the greatest... [Read More...]

World Series of Poker WSOP 2008 Final Table Change
The World Series of Poker – WSOP Main Event Final 9 / Final Table will be played Nov 9-10 instead of the original date of July 16. This will allow WSOP organizers to align the final table with the ESPN broadcast. “Our intent is to provide an even bigger stage for our players,” said Jeffrey Pollack, Commissioner of the World Series of Poker. “Now fans and viewers will ask ‘who will win’ our coveted championship bracelet instead of... WSOP Main Event Day 1D Recap
Day 1D of the World Series Of Poker Main Event saw Mixed Martial Arts fighter Chuck Liddell at the same table as Phil Hellmuth. I would love Phil Hellmuh talk trash to Chuck Lidell. The TV coverage must be salivating at these table seatings. This year’s prize pool will be $64 Million, the winner’s share is $9,119,517. Pretty good return for a $10,000 investment or in some cases a $250 satellite tournament entry is an even better investment. The... [Read More...]
