Virginia Tech and UVA College Football Week 1 Big Losers
August 31, 2008
Its good to see teams like Virginia Tech and University of Virginia lose this week. I like nothing more than to see these two teams lose. Why ? I’m tired hearing those fans act like they always have a chance at the BCS National Title year in and year out. But year in and year out they only settle for a shot at the Fiesta or Chic-Fila bowl. Im tired of hearing Beamer Ball… UVA on the otherhand got crushed by No. 3 ranked USC. Who schedules a game like this so early in the season ?
If you share the same hate for Hokie Football or UVa football leave me a comment.
I do know that my lock from Robert Ferringo’s pick of the week Alabama +4.5 over Clemson was a big fat winner. No. 24 Alabama crushed No 9 Clemson 34-10. Either Alabama deserves to be ranked higher or Clemson is not that good. Alabama’s offense especially their running attack was pretty unstoppable. The odds on that Alabama vs Clemson games was too good to pass up.
You can add Clemson to the big fat losers list, but I dont hate on Clemson as I hate on Hokies or Uva.

Alabama vs Clemson NCAA Odds
August 30, 2008
Robert Ferringo likes Alabama +4.5 over Clemson. That is his Free Advantage Play for the week and I agree. Key points to his assessment:
The Nick Saban advantage - He can coach and he’s been preparing for this game all season. No chance a coach like Nick Saban will let this one slide.
ACC teams have covered less than 39 percent of their nonconference games (nearly 100 trials) over the last few years, and ACC teams are just 9-31 straight-up against ranked nonconference opponents.

John McCain chooses Sarah Palin for VP
August 29, 2008
John McCain chooses Sarah Palin for his Vice President and running mate in the upcoming election. All my readers actually had it right also. Check out my poll below:
Sarah Palin was 7/1 in odds to be the Republican Vice Presidential nominee. If you had Sarah Palin, you would have cashed. The ticket is set for both parties. We await the start of the Republican convention in Minneapolis, MN. Palin is considered a surprise and is currently the “little known” Governor of Alaska. This seems to be a balance in age for John McCain, just like Barack Obama choosing an older Joe Biden. She has no foreign policy experience. Also considered a “Maverick” Republican she is maybe the compliment to John McCain. This is getting close and exciting folks. Check back for more.

Chris Cooley the movie producer ?
August 27, 2008
It seems like Chris Cooley of the Washington Redskins is set to produce a movie. Chris Cooley along with his brother, Tanner has partnered with a group called 19th and Wilson to produce a movie called Ghost Dont Exist.
No further details are available. The announcement was made on Chris Cooley’s Blog. Here is a short blurb about what the movie is about:
GHOSTS DON’T EXIST
After losing his wife, a ghost hunter questions what he believes in and decides to retire. When he gets a call from a potential client who guarantees he’ll find the evidence he’s looking for, he can’t resist taking one last shot. What happens as soon as the team arrives at the home, is tragic and shocking…and something that’s never happened on any ghost hunting gig before. Ghosts Don’t Exist is a psychological horror produced by 19th & Wilson and Tanner Cooley. Executive Producers are NFL’s pro bowl player Chris Cooley, and well known script consultant/producer, James P. Mercurio.
Its good to see an NFL player branch out. This is definitely an interesting project. Athlete’s have invested in restaurants or in the music industry this is definitely a step above. A movie project is huge.
We’ll see how it turns out.

Usain Bolt Bolting to the NFL ?
August 27, 2008
There are rumors floating around that Olympic Golde Medalist spinter Usain Bolt is being scouted by NFL teams. As you can recall Usain Bolt is perhaps at the moment the fastest man in the World. The question is why would Usain bold to the NFL to be tackled by 300 pound men and risk injury. He can easily be a World Wide Superstar. If he does go to the NFL, he would be a risk. Teams would probably only offer him the minimum salary allowed for rookies. He could reap millions at the Michael Phelps level World Wide.
My take - Usain Bolt will not be bolting to the NFL.

Fantasy Football Notebook - Draft Players on Winning Teams
August 26, 2008
This is the third article in a series of articles that I am writing on Fantasy Football. The first article detailed a basic draft strategy - Fantasy Football Notebook - Draft Strategy. The second article featured my opinions on Fantasy Football Keeper/Dynasty leagues - Fantasy Football Notebook - Keeper Leagues Love them or Hate Them. The fourth article deals with Fantasy Football Draft Tools - Fantasy Football Notebook - Draft Tools.
Today’s article revisits draft strategies or just picking up players in general. My advice is pick up players on winning teams. Think about it, this is common sense, if a team is doing great - look for players on their teams. If it comes down to drafting a player on a team with playoff possibilities vs a team that is rebuilding, take the player on the winning team. The winning team will most likely score more and go on streaks. If you need a player on the waiver wire, look for a player on a winning or successful team.
Let’s say you are looking to pick up a second tier running back. Available are Rudi Johnson of Cincinnati and Ronnie Brown of Miami. Its a no brainer, Rudi Johnson of the Bengals. Purely based on the success rate of the Bengals. It can mean a difference of 5-8 points per game. I dont see the Miami Dolphins going to far this season.
Let’s say you are looking to draft a QB in the later rounds. John Kitna of Detroit is available according to fantasyfootball.com, they have Kitna ranked at 14 for QBs. Eli Manning is ranked 15. Who do you choose ? Probably Eli Manning based on the success rate of the Giants this season. The Giants could bomb, but at least you know that the Giants can be a contender, as opposed to the unpredictable Lions. Again it could be a difference of 6-8 points a week. Kitna may get hot a couple of weeks, but he may have one of those games and get under 10 points. But you know Eli Manning will atleast give you 15+ points based on his teams win rate.
That is my advice for today. Stay tuned for more. As always feel free to leave me feedback. Good or bad, it is always appreciated.
