The Sports Affiliate has initiated coverage of the Amsterdam Tournament. The Amsterdam tournament has one unique aspect according to WikiPedia:
The Amsterdam Tournament uses an unusual points-scoring system. As with most football, a victory results in three points; a draw in one; and a defeat in none. However, teams are rewarded one extra point for every goal they score. For example, a 3-3 draw brings the same number of points as a 1-0 victory brings to the winner. In the previous example both teams would get 4 points. This system is designed to encourage more attacking football.
Arsenal is the defending champion of this tournament. We will also be seeing Jose Mourinho back at the helm.
Betus has released their odds for the Amsterdam Tournament.
Inter Milan (+100) vs FC Sevilla (+215) - Draw (+225)
Ajax Amsterdam (+140) vs Arsenal (+160) - Draw (+225)
I expect Inter Milan win as well as Asenal. These two teams will face each other again in the second game. Is not win or lose in this tournament, its about winning with a lot of goals.

Poker Players and their educational background

I stumbled upon this article comparing poker players and fund managers. It is published by Netgroup Investors, Matthew de Witt.
Interestingly, like top fund managers, good professional poker players generate significant profits over longer periods, but have mixed results over shorter periods as there is a random element (or luck) to the cards dealt.
So I decided to do some reasearch on past winners of the World Series of Poker Main Event winners.
Chris Ferguson - 2000 - PhD Computer Science
Robert Varkonyi - 2002 - MIT Graduate - EE CS
Chris Moneymaker - 2003 - Accountant (Masters in Accounting)
Greg Raymer - 2004 - Patent Lawyer
Joe Hachem - 2005 - Chiropractor
Jaime Gold - 2006 - Entertainment Law
Jerry Yang - 2007 - Health Psychology (Masters)
These winners do not validate the fund manager theory but the trend is that your chances are better if you are highly educated. With the exception of a few players who win, but the majority are extremely educated with advanced degrees. It shows how poker is a game of critical thinking and how the mind is in play at all time, but you cant count out luck and chance of course.

Subscribing to this theory Darus Suharto (17/2) should have the best chances if you take into account of occupation and education. Not to doubt the professional poker players. Im sure they are all smart people. Dennis Philips (3/1) the chip leader has the best chances because he is the chip leader, but I would put him at #2 for this theory. The next two Kelly Kim (25/1) and Craig Marquis (10/1) are at the bottom of the chip lead, it will be tough for them to come back. But if the theory proves to be true they will make a come back. The would be the #3 and #4 seed for the theory rating.

The USA Men’s Basketball team is the clear favorite to win the Men’s Gold. The USA Men’s Basketball team in (1/4), according to Bodog. Not too far behind in the odds are Spain (7/2), Argentina (10/1), Russia (14/1). The US has an excellent chance, but I wouldnt bet the house on them with those odds. I do like Russia.
The odds on Betus for these four are:
USA (-325)
Spain (+350)
Argentina (+700)
Russia (+1000)
Another team to look out for is China, they are playing on their home turf. They may not a bunch of quality NBA players but home court advantage and a healthy Yao Ming helps. Also playing under international rules will help. This is particularly a different game of the US Team. China is +6500 on Betus. They are 50/1 on Bodog. You will strike gold on China if you were to place a bet.

Checking in on the latest odds from Bodog.com on the United States Presidential Election in November, Barrack Obama seems to still be the favorite. Barack Obama is (-240). Meanwhile John McCain is (+175). These are excellent odds. Things will heat up in the next couple of months. A vice presidential candidate will be selected, then a clearer favorite will be evident. These odds will then go down and your payouts will be lower. Check out this table from RealClearPolitics.com, these are averages from Polls conducted in July:
John Mccain Barack Obama poll information
Obama lost a total of 4.1 points from June, he is now averaging a +3.0 margin across different polls for July. USA Today/Gallup has McCain at +4.0. The only poll John McCain has a lead in.
As we get closer to the convention. Barack Obama is rumored to be seriously talking to Virginia Governor Tim Kaine. Tim Kaine is currently 3/2 in Bodog Vice Presidential Candidate Odds. The rumors on the John McCain side is that Fred Smith is going to be his running mate. Fred Smith’s odds are at 40/1 from Bodog. Fred Smith is currently the CEO of Fedex.

Im sticking with the Italian Letizia Filippi. I know the least about her. She has not allegedly dated Sergio Ramos or is not a Hollywood b-list celeb. Take my poll.

She is not bad. Ronaldo likes to diversify and he does like them top heavy. What’s up with the ball huggers though? I guess if you are C-Ron, you can get away with wearing ball huggers and crutches. They are not ordinary ball huggers, they are shiny ball huggers. Let’s get back to Niki. Not Ronaldo’s best, she is probably a 7.5 in my book. Nice body. Maybe her makeup job went wrong. She is not smoking hot, but she is hot. I would definitely take her over Paris Hilton. Over Nereirda Gallardo, probably. Over Letizia Filippi, no. Letizia Filippi is my top seed at the moment for Ronaldo’s dime pieces. The is running through them left and right. The Italian girl will always win over the California girl. Check out Niki Grazian’s interview with theDirty.com on her night with Ronaldo. She probaby shouldnt kiss and tell. How does Ronaldo juggle all these dime pieces ?

Chelsea FC’s players may be considered over the hill. They are not exactly in a youth movement at th moment. Check out the ages of some of their players at the moment:

Yes Ryan Giggs is 34 and Paul Scholes is 34. But Manchester United are not depending on these guys for the next two or three years. Chelsea is depending on the 30 somethings for the next couple of years. Its not like Mancheste United’s young players are rookies, their young players already have several titles under their belt already.
Who knows maybe age will prevail. Will the 30 somethings hurt Chelsea ? Did they sign them so that in two years they can sell them or transfer them to the MLS ?

Letizia Filippi is rumored to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s new sqeeze of the moment. She is an Italian model and a TV presenter. She has rumored to have planned to fly to LA Thursday to meet up with Ronaldo.
He didnt waste any time. Her agent says ‘She and Ronaldo are very, very good friends.’ How good ? She previously had a two year relationship with Alberto Tomba. At 30 she looks pretty good. I would choose her over Nereirda Gallardo anyday. Im surprised that C-Ron would have someone fly across the world to see him when there are plenty of talent like Paris Hilton in LA. He must got bored of the LA blondes and fake breasts he would see all the time. Or he must have a strong connection with Letizia Filippi :). Is this the girl in the blue bikini her ? or was these two girls just to pass time for Ronaldo ?
Sir Alex Ferguson should perhaps be telling Ronaldo to put some sun block preferably SPF 150+ instead of telling him to stay at Manchester United.

The Washington Redskins play the Indianapolis Colts in the innaugural preseason game. This game is probably meaningless but fun to watch if you have a little action and juice on it. You may be celebrating by the 3rd quarter or you will be sitting on the edge of your seats as the scrubs run up the score or make a come back. I dont think Peyton Manning will play after going through off season surgery. The Redskins welcome newly signed Jason Taylor. How will the Redskins operate Jim Zorn’s “west coast” offense ? Will the Redskins have a defensive to contend.

The EPL season starts in a matter of weeks. Bodog has released their odds. Once again Manchester United (7/5) and Chelsea (7/4) are at top. Not too far behind is Arsenal (9/2) and Liverpool (6/1). They are the big four. Not a shocker here. Tottenham Hotspur is 50/1 odds, huge difference.
Chelsea has added Luiz Felipe Scolari and Deco to boost their team. For Manchester United, how will Cristiano Ronaldo recover from his surgery ? Will be be there when the season starts ?
